What butterfly is this?




I'm not sure which kind of butterfly this is, but what great colors! Another milkweed fan..

I do believe it is a Gorgone Checkerspot (Chlosyne gorgone), but I could be wrong. I've never been lucky enough to witness one.

Sorry about the above anonymous and possibly incorrect post.
I had another look at your butterfly, and it's more likely to be a Silvery Checkerspot (Chlosyne nycteis).

Tina, Thanks so much for the identification help. I think you are right -- I looked at both pictures (in Lori Spencer's "Arkansas Butterflies and Moths) till my eyes nearly crossed it was so close. Silvery Checkerspot it is then!
